We were informed of the plight of children and families of prisoners by Helen Glanville from Second Chances, a charity set up to help the families of prisoners. Children of prisoner parents are 7 times more likely to go to prison when compared to other children. If the family is indigenous, then the probability moves to 21 times more likely to serve a term in gaol.
Second Chances reach out to these families to assist them in managing their lives and to provide a means of avoiding falling into problems that may result in a term in prison.
