It pays to dream in terms of communities where the business and
members can come to know and appreciate each other, where they
decide to work together to sweeten and strengthen the business atmosphere, where they begin to ask which little children need shoes and eyeglasses and better schools; and where they discover they are part of a world with good new friends spread over it. Furthermore, we need extension; the more clubs we have, the more friends we have, and the more friends, the greater our opportunity for service. The field in which we can go on planting friendship and mutual understanding remains wide open to us.

The changeover night was a tremendous success, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. The choice of the Novotel as the venue added a special significance to the evening, especially since many members had not visited it before. It was heartwarming to see old acquaintances reunited and new friendships blossoming.
Fellowship and fun are crucial for our club, and we have a dedicated "Fun Team," led by Karin Bosomworth, to encourage these values. I am confident that you will all support this initiative and make the most of it. I am excited to see how we can blend our efforts and resources for the greater good.
We already have numerous fantastic and worthwhile projects underway. Through these, I am eager to enhance our club's public profile and attract new members. I welcome any ideas and suggestions on how we can achieve this.
On Sunday, August 4th, Group 7 of the Zone 8 Rotary Community Groups, led by Ian Chase, will have its first gathering. This initial meeting will be an interactive workshop designed to help us get to know each other and our clubs better, and to develop our RCG Growth Plans. This is the first step in the new regionalisation project for Rotary. It will be fascinating to see what develops and how we can combine efforts to achieve great things.
I appreciate everyone’s support, and I know that as we work together, our club will continue to achieve great things.

Guest Speaker - Mandy Jones
It was a hectic noisy night at this Rotary meeting with the Vine Inn jam packed with people and their staff flat out. Meals were running late which couldn't be helped. However, Mandy's talk on the subject of Conservation & Detection Dogs was split into two parts and was very interesting. Conservation & Detection Dogs SA use highly trained Detection Dogs to search for all types of Endangered and Invasive animals, plants, reptiles, insects, missing people and lost dogs. This organisation also provides Dog and handler training for Scent Detection and also pet dog training if requested. Following Mandy's presentation Keith thanked her for coming and handed her a nice wine glass. There is little doubt that your best friend will always be your dog.

incredible contribution to helping protect our endangered beach
nesting birds, by locating hundreds of fox dens along Adelaide
and the Fleurieu Peninsula coasts.

FELLOWSHIP NIGHT at REHN'S BIER
Monday 29th July 2024
Make sure you are booked in for this fellowship gathering
President Steve is keen to have a fellowship event early in the year. Rehn Bier has welcomed us to the brewery on that night so we will be able to enjoy their hospitality as we have in the past. It is an excellent venue for a fellowship
get together so make sure you lock in the date above.
David West will do most of the organising as he has in the past, so we will need members to assist with the preparation and cooking. We will need 3- 4 cooks to prepare the meal and 2-3 servers.

. We will be having a short teams competition during the evening with possibly a Silver(ish) Cup for the winning team. Teams of 3 -4 members can be organised by you or will be mandated by us on the night.

Ukraine update July 2024
Thank you for your support and much needed donations to our humanitarian aid projects in Ukraine. Rotary Club of Barossa Valley has donated $2000 last year and $1000 this year.
The projects listed below could not have been financed and completed in southern Ukraine without your financial help.
- A third Modular Medical Centres – installed in Vysokopillia – alongside the partially destroyed local hospital.
- Community Centre for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Odesa. Supported renovations and supply of equipment for the Café, Laundry, Kitchen, Hair Salon. – creating employment and a community hub for IDPs
- Regional Hospital – Bereznehuvate – replacement of 40 large industrial windows. To re-establish 40 hospital rooms.
- Mental Hospital – Odesa- Repairs to Toilets and Shower facilities
- Chervona Dolina Village School – Renovation of a Classroom, new student furniture and some much needed Teacher educational aids.
- Shyroke1 School – Replacements of Windows, repairs to Walls and Ceilings and complete redecoration of two classrooms and a hall.
- Tamarino Village School – repairs to Walls, Windows and Floors of two classrooms damaged by Russian drone attacks.
- Kalininske School – Purchase and deliver 173 student back packs containing student supplies.
Ukraine Projects currently funded – Work in Progress (July-August 2024)
- Voznesensk School – A large school project to establish 4 operational classrooms in the Basement/Bomb Shelter. Project funded & managed by the Rotary Club of Campbelltown.
- Shyroke2 School – re-establish 2 additional classrooms – repairs to windows, walls, ceilings and floors.
New Dawn volunteers in Odesa and the Rotary project team are now researching other much needed projects to be started over the next few months including Schools, Health services and Community Projects in the southern towns and villages of Ukraine.
Unfortunately, as we see in the media, the hardship and suffering continue for Ukrainians.
Your continued support for future projects would be much appreciated.

Changeover with their longtime friends Rotarian Neil & Julie Ross
For those who can remember the exciting time they had at
PDG Peter's District Conference at Swan Hill in 1998 may also
remember Neil entertaining on his Bag Pipes. John Semmler was in charge of
organising this enjoyable conference to which about 700 people attended.
John, next time Neil and Julie are down in the Barossa, can I suggest that a couple of tunes on his bagpipes in the Vine Inn would go down pretty well. I look forward to it. (Editor)
