Stephanie has served Rotary well during her role as President. Below you can read one of her many contributions.
"I said yes to joining a Rotary club in 1991 because I wanted to meet new people. Many years later, I can attribute the amazing experiences I’ve had, people I’ve met, and places I’ve visited because I continued to say yes. I tell people, “Life is always more interesting on the other side of yes.” That has certainly been true in Rotary"

Monthly Theme for May 2025
Youth Service Month
Youth Service Month within the Rotary calendar. This theme encourages Rotarians to focus on projects and initiatives that support and uplift young people.
Marie joined the Interplast Company ten years ago, and this is her first year not on the Board, however Marie continues to share information about Interplast wherever possible.
In Marie’s words “the most amazing experience of my life” was a trip to Tonga, accompanying surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and physiotherapists, where she witnessed life changing surgeries – “miracles take place”! Marie also found out just how stretchy skin is!
The recipient of this life changing surgery – which can vary from cleft palate repairs to removal of tumours to repairing dreadful results of burns – is chosen by local community and Interplast is invited to assist.
Sixteen countries are partners of Interplast, and the Interplast Promise to Partners is:
Exceptional patient care: 27,000+ life changing repair, reconstruction and treatments since 1983
Building a sustainable workforce: 12,000+ training engagements since 1983, during Covid 2020-2022 Interplast volunteers delivered 15,873 mentoring hours and 90,835 Webinar hours in training to students and clinicians
Strengthening hospitals and clinical institutions: training focusing on physiotheraphy care of hands, burns, and upper limb trauma; in 2022 Motivation Australia joined the Interplast Team; in-country staff are now being equipped and trained to provide rehabilitaton, wheelchairs, prosthetics, orthotics and other assistive technology
Working to create systemic change: nursing care in many countries is very different to Australia, and some doctors don’t know how to resuscitate a patient; raising the standing of nurses means that nurses who do know are confident and able to step in, thus saving more lives.
Rotary was a founding partner in 1983 and has been instrumental in the sustainability of Interplast since then.
“Rotary is a vital part of allowing Interplast to offer what it offers to … communities in developing nations.”

Specialist Plastic Surgeon.
Interplast volunteer since 2012.

I had the privilege of attending the Multi District Impact Summit at the Morphettville Racecourse on the 17th and 18th of May.
The event featured a great array of engaging and thought-provoking speakers who broadened my perspective on a range of topics and, at times, challenged my thinking. Fundraising was a recurring theme throughout the conference, prompting me to reflect on how we approach and value our own fundraising efforts. Duck racing seems to be gaining popularity among several clubs, with some sharing impressive net figures. While it's clearly effective for them, I believe sticking with our airshow remains the right path for us.
Conversations with Rotarians from other clubs were equally enlightening. It was heartening to hear about the challenges they’re facing—particularly around membership—and how they’re addressing them. One key takeaway was that there is no single solution to this issue. Rather, it highlighted Rotary’s ongoing struggle to effectively tell its own story.
One speaker asked a powerful question: “What is your Rotary why?”—Why are you in Rotary? If we’re willing to challenge ourselves and answer honestly, we’ll uncover the personal motivations that drive each of us to be part of this organisation. These reasons will differ from person to person, but sharing your “why” is what resonates and draws others in.
The summit also reminded me how fortunate we are to be part of such a strong and capable club. We have a great mix of people with diverse and valuable skills—whether it’s in fundraising, administration, or community engagement—and most importantly, we work together without ego. Our shared focus, especially on youth and community initiatives, is something to be proud of. As we continue to grow and welcome new members, it's important that we protect and nurture this collaborative spirit. It’s what makes our club truly great—and what will ensure our continued success.
The old don't have to worry about avoiding temptation.
