Bulletin 3339
2nd December 2024
Vine Inn

Stephanie A. Urchick
RI President 2024/25

Theme for the month of December 2024

Disease Prevention and Treatment
There are those who say that it is useless to help the poor,
because the poor will always be with us, or that we do not have
the means to feed the world. The poor may indeed be with us always, but
it is not because we refuse to help them.
M.A.T. Caparas was Rotary International President 1986-1987 and his theme emblem summed up his belief.
"From A wheel of commerce
and Industry now a wheel of hope.
For children without polio,
For food for all people,
For a life worth living,
For a world at peace."
The way to alleviate suffering, is through vaccines, books, tractors, irrigation supplies & education. This is the substance of freedom and understanding...the real humanitarian aid.

PRESIDENT STEVE'S SNIPPETS

Thank you for another fantastic meeting!
Our club is fortunate to have such a committed group of community-minded members who excel by playing to their strengths—whether raising funds or creating pathways to support youth and others in our community.

We should all take pride in our accomplishments and actively share with others how outstanding our Rotary club is. To help sustain our success, please stay attentive within the community, and think about people who might benefit from joining Rotary and contributing to our mission. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate, service-oriented, and eager to make a positive impact.

Our major fundraiser, the Airshow, is coming up in April. This event not only showcases the vibrancy of our club but also generates crucial funds for our initiatives. It’s a great conversation starter to generate interest in our club, so feel free to highlight it when speaking to potential new members.

We have been holding board meetings after the second meeting of each month to reduce the time commitment for our board members. However, the board has recognized that this arrangement sometimes limits opportunities for fellowship and can restrict the depth of discussion needed for key decisions.

To address this, the board has decided to meet on the second Monday of every month moving forward. This change will give us more dedicated time to focus on the effective operation of our club while preserving the camaraderie after our regular meetings.

Finally, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at our Christmas meeting, where we’ll gather with family and friends to share stories, celebrate the season, and enjoy each other’s company.

Thank you for your dedication, and let’s continue to make our Rotary club an example of service and community spirit!

Christmas Meeting MONDAY 16th December 2024
Dress in your finest Christmas apparel and get ready for a fun evening at the Vine Inn on Monday 16th December, when we celebrate Christmas and another successful Rotary year.
We’ll meet at the usual time of 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.
Dinner will cost $35 each for a main (alternate drop fish or turkey, and selection from the salad bar) and a sweet (also alternate drop), and of course if you’re a member of the Vine Inn, you can bring a bottle of your favourite wine without having to pay BYO.
Please bring a few dollars cash for the fun and games!

Merry Christmas to all members, partners and friends.

As a member of Rotary, you are also a part of The Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Foundation implements global grants which are used to supply clean water and sanitation, train peacebuilders, provide medical aid, and help people rebuild their lives after natural disasters.
I'm sure members could recall the successful work of past member Gavin Sidhu. On a larger scale, the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley’s Uganda Dental Hygiene Project in 2022 was a great example of how The Rotary Foundation can support clubs. The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley raised $12,000 which resulted in a Global Grant of $90,000 (US$63,400), also supported by other clubs in District 9510 and Rotaract Salisbury.

Gifts to The Rotary Foundation can be multiplied in the form of grants: District Grants, Global Grants, Programs of Scale Grants, and Disaster Response Grants.
The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley recently was successful in a District Grant application, which will provide $2,000 towards the Barossa Anglican Domestic Violence Support program, to purchase personal and home safety devices for families in domestic violence situations. The Club also has committed to $2,500, which will be bolstered by donations from other organisations and individuals and fund-raising activities.

Ways to donate to The Rotary Foundation include direct donations, bequests and endowments.
You can choose where you want to direct your donation, e.g. to End Polio, a specific cause or disaster relief program, or to the Annual Fund which directs gifts to where the need is greatest.

                                Become a Centurion
                        (more about this later)
A simple way to donate to The Rotary Foundation is through the District 9510 Centurion Program. The commitment you are asked to make is a contribution of A$100 per year for as long as you are able. You can choose to make regular payments directly from your bank account.
Contributions can be made at www.rotaryfoundationaustralia.org.au/donate.
Remember – your Centurion contributions count towards your Club’s Annual Giving total, and 100% of funds donated are used for Areas of Focus projects both locally and internationally, no admin fees!
The Rotary Foundation is rated 100%, earning it a Four-Star rating by Charity Navigator, a not-for-profit organisation which has rated over 225,000 charities.
97% of donations to The Rotary Foundation goes directly to the intended programs and activities.
You can find out more about The Rotary Foundation and how your donations add value to the world in the video on the District 9510 website, via this link Home Page | District 9510.
For as little as $100 per annum you can become a member of
the Centurion Club.

JUST A THOUGHT
Why do many meetings always start with "Can everyone hear me?"
when the answer is inevitably, "NO, you sound like you're in a Tin Can."
